Eddie Murphy’s New “Coming To America” Set For Release In 2020

According to multiple reports, Paramount Pictures confirmed the release of the new Eddie Murphy movie, the sequel to Coming To America, on the 7th of August, 2020. This comes approximately one month after it was revealed Eddie was working on a follow-up to his classic movie which broke records for comedy at the time.

Reportedly, the studio hired the director of Hustle and Flow, Craig Brewer, to helm the project and Mr. Murphy, the iconic actor/comedian will star in it. Rumor has it that it has been in the creative process for multiple years and Johnathan Levine was supposed to direct it originally.

Previously, the California Film Commission awarded the studio around $13,000,000 in tax credits to film there last April. However, it was only on the condition that it would begin filming within 6 months. Kenya Barris was supposed to write the original script and intends to still fulfill that role.

The original Coming To America movie was written by the writers, Barry Blaustein as well as Dave Sheffield. Murphy is one of the main producers alongside Kevin Misher. Directed by John Landis, the first Coming To America starred Eddie as an African king, a man fleeing his family and nation due to an arranged marriage.

The movie had several stars in it, including John Amos, Murphy, Shari Headley, James Earl Jones, as well as the iconic television host from the 1980s and 1990s, Arsenio Hall.

When it was first released, it made over $300,000,000 at the box office, making it one of the most successful comedy movies ever. Recently, Brewer and Murphy worked together on Dolemite Is My Name about the comic, Rudy Ray Moore.

The sequel is coming out on the 7th of August, 2020, and it’s following another event film from Warner Brothers Studios. The next project for Murphy makes him an even busier man, following the revelation that his Australian girlfriend, Paige Butcher, was pregnant with his 10th child.

Eddie also has a child with the Spice Girls star, Mel B. Previously, the issue of who should take custody of the young girl was a point of contention between Stephen Belafonte and Mel B. Eddie Murphy never commented on the matter.
