Looking for something to do in Metro Vancouver? Here are three suggestions for Friday, Aug. 10.
Abbotsford International Airshow
The Abbotsford Airshow gets underway Friday in the Fraser Valley, and if you love seeing cool stuff in the sky, you’re going to want to be in attendance. On opening night, visitors will be treated to aerial displays from both the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the US Navy Blue Angels, plus a demonstration of the CF-18 Hornet and a spectacular fireworks display. There’s also all sorts of cool aviation memorabilia and static displays, plus dozens of food trucks waiting to sate your hunger.
Where: Abbotsford International Airport, 30440 Liberator Ave., Abbotsford
When: 3 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
There are few better places to spend a sunny Vancouver afternoon than Kits Beach, and that holds especially true during KitsFest, Vancouver’s hottest sports and healthy living beach festival. Head down to the beach and play some basketball, volleyball or touch football, do some yoga, or just watch the triumphant return of the historic English Bay bathtub races. Bathrub races!
Where: Kits Beach, Vancouver
The Sound of Music Sing-a-Long
Everyone loves a good sing-a-long, and the Sound of Music sing-a-long at the Rio on Friday night sounds like a very good sing-a-long. Everyone will surely love it, and that includes you — even if you don’t know all the songs. A bouncing ball on the screen will help you follow along with the lyrics, as will everyone else in attendance. Don’t forget to show up in costume, but be cool about it: no one wants to see Nazis on Commercial.
Where: The Rio Theatre, 1660 E. Broadway, Vancouver
When: Doors open at 6 p.m.
